Dhamra Wildlife Sanctuary

Dhamra Wildlife Sanctuary

Dhamra is present in the confluence of the rivers Vaitarini and Brhamini where they meet the Bay of Bengal. It is situated at 40 km from Chandbali and 160 kms from Balasore.Situated between Haldia and Paradeep, Dhamra Port is well sheltered between the mainland and Kanika Sands Island on the mouth of the river Dhamra. The location of Dhamra is in close proximity to the mineral belt of Orissa, Jharkhand and West Bengal and its dedicated connectivity will help serve this hinterland with the greatest efficiency.

The Port is protected by Kanika Sands Island resulting in a natural sheltered and remarkably tranquil basin. Keeping in mind the ecologically sensitive marine santuary at Gahirmatha towards the south, the approach channel is from the Northern side thus restricting all shipping movements to the north of the Port.
