Sambalpur, subject to great tourism from west side of Odisha  is surrounded with lush green forests, colourful wild-life,  waterfalls, rich tribal sections  with wide variety of historical monuments.  Sambalpur known worldwide for its handloom textile even earn great reputation for its amazing places. Sambalpur tourism let you meet the Mahanadi River which is an ancient town during 2nd century AD is now turned as a major commercial trade center. Sambalpur was a fortified town during the Chouhan rule and also names as Diamond Island due to extracting diamonds from the river Mahanadi at Hirakud.

Places of tourist interest in Sambalpur

Hirakud

It is the longest dam of the world’s stands on Mahanadi River provides a great charming ambience from where you view the entire city from the top of the Gandhi Minar from Hirakud.

Huma Temple

This is one of the tourist places around Sambalpur was established in 1670. It was built by the king Baliar Singh, the fifth king of Chauhan dynasty.  The temple is known as leaning temple as it is not stand upright and is tilted to one side.

Chiplima

It is a popular picnic spot situated at the middle of the Hirakud Dam and Huma Temple. It is one of the places to visit in Sambalpur known for its splendid waterfall that cascades from a height of 24 m and Ghanteswari shrine, dedicated to the presiding deity of the place.

Ushakothi Wildlife Sanctuary

Located at a distance of approximately 22 km it is one of the prominent tourist places in Sambalpur. This Wildlife Sanctuary is spread over an area of approximately 285 square kilometres and serves as the home of natural habitats.

Vikramkhol

It is a cave containing Pictographic Inscription (1,500 B.C. or even earlier) of great antiquity. This pre-historic cave is one of the incredible places to visit in Sambalpur.

Pradhanpat

The Pradhanpat hill is in tourist's attention due to its picturesque waterfalls that offers a rare scenic beauty. These falls are close to Deogarh town which is attractively situated with the background of wooded hills.

Nrusinmhanath

This temple is situated in Gandhamardan hills is included as prominent Sambalpur tourist places. The hill is very famous for its Hanrisankar temple and as witnessing the Buddhist culture.
