Details

Once known as Toshali, Kalinga Nagari, Mandira Malini Nagari, Bhubaneswar, today is known as the capital city of Odisha. Named after Tribhuvaneswar "Lord of Three Worlds" Bhubaneswar temple city preserves more than 500 ancient finest temples in and around the city gives the finest example of its establishment back over 2000 years.

The present modern city of Bhubaneswar was established in 1946 and designed by the world renowned German architect Otto Konigsberger. It can be said that Bhubaneswar is the perfect blend of both modern and ancient architectural establishments. Bhubaneswar tourism always adds special memory in your heart.

Places of tourist interest in Bhubaneswar

Lingaraj temple

This is one of the oldest temple of Lord Shiva in the capital city. The biggest temple of Bhubaneswar is situated with spacious compound wall measuring 520 feet by 465 feet. The temple is divided into four parts, the main temple, Yajna Shala, the Bhoga Mandap and Natya Shala.

Mukteswara Temple

It is a 10th century old monument is fine example of ancient and modern Kalinga School of architecture. The temple is dedicated to Lord Shiva and one of the best Bhubaneswar tourist places. The temple architecture is the blend of Hindu, Jain and Buddhist and is of 35 ft high. The walls are decorated with legendry stories from the Panchatantra.

Parashurameswar Temple

This oldest temple is constructed in 650 A.D and was dedicated to Lord Shiva. The temple has verdant sculptures of animals, couples and floral designs.  The outer wall is craved with Lord Ganesha, Lord Shiva, Lord Muruga, Goddess Parvati and other Hindu Gods

Ananta Vasudeva Temple

It is one of the Vaishnavite temples to be visited during Bhubaneswar tourism, which is dating back to the 13th century. The temple is located on the eastern bank of the Bindu Sarovar Lake.

Rajarani Temple

It is a 11th century ancient temple, which is known for its unique feature included in Tourist places in Bhubaneswar. This is the only temple which is established with the absence of presiding deity. It is known because of its stylish and dynamic animated sculptures.

NandanKanan

It is a zoological park set in the midst of greenery ambience of Chandaka forest. A zoo and botanical garden with Kanjia lake complete the Nandankanan and declared as a sanctuary and zoo in 1979.

Bramheswara Temple

This ancient temple is built in the 11th century, along with main Shivalinga, idols of Goddess Lakshmi and Lord Shiva in their fierce form placed in the sanctum. Tantric related images are also found here.

Odisha State Museum                                                      

Odisha state museum famed to glory with its huge collection of manuscripts on palm leaves, wide collection of archaeological objects, art and craft objects, natural history objects, bronze age tools and stone sculptures. The museum was established in 1948 and still holds so many potential things which relates to Odisha culture, heritage and tradition.

Udayagiri & Khandagiri

The caves of Udayagiri and Khandagiri are partly natural and partly artificial. It is believed that most of the caves were carved out by Jain monks during King Kharavela. Ranigumpha of Udayagiri is most attracted tow storied caves. Hatigumpha and Ganeshagumpha are also well known art treasures of Bhubaneswar tourist places.

Dhauli

On the way Bhubaneswar to Puri you can visit Dhauli that is Buddhist sanchi stupa reminds you the historic "Kalinga War". On the foot hill one can see the rock edicts of king Ashoka and come to know about its history.

Sisupalgarh

Ruins of Sisupalgarh are situated 2 kms away from Lingaraj temple. This is one of the great monuments included in Bhubaneswar tourism that describes about Odissan civilization.

Hirapur

The city Hirapur is known for its hypaethral temple of sixty four Yoginis. The temple is situated 15kms away from Bhubaneswar is established at 11th century. This temple is unique in its creation and second of its kind in Odisha and fourth of its kind in India.
